The Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) is a national research centre, funded by the UK Research and Innovation, which is dedicated to bringing about transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. We are seeking a highly experienced bioinformatics scientist with a PhD and expertise in analytical algorithm development, chemical and biological data processing pipelines, and scientific software. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in systems thinking, requirements engineering, and scientific leadership, coupled with significant experience in managing and leading R&D projects. The candidate should be able to develop data processing software for research, particularly for prototype or modified mass spectrometers.

As an interim Quality Manager within the Operations Team you will report to the Director of HR and have one direct report of a Quality Assistant.

Working within a small Operations Team, the role requires an experienced Quality Manager to continue to build a quality management system and oversee its effective operation. You will provide strategic input and guidance on the design and implementation of key quality processes. As part of this project, we are currently looking for a science driven, but community oriented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our proteomics group.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to join our Structural Biology theme at the Rosalind Franklin Institute. Building on recent work demonstrating the use of focused ion beams (FIB) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) to image cells and tissues (DOIs: 10.1038/s41467-023-36372-9; 10.1101/2022.09.21.508877), we are looking to recruit a computational expert to develop and apply AI and automation of cryogenic FIB/SEM and lift-out of biological specimens for structural biology. This will enable imaging high volumes of lamella of multicellular specimens, implemented alongside efforts to streamline high-precision targeting in 3D and structure determination and facilitate attempts to make the technique more widely applicable.

The scientific focus is to look at the impact of virus on the body, expanding from the structural models of proteins to observing changes in tissues.

The water window X-ray microscope project is an exciting new EPSRC-funded collaboration between the University of Southampton's School of Chemistry and Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), the Rosalind Franklin Institute (RFI), and the Central Laser Facility (CLF) at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratories. The project will design and construct a lab-scale soft X-ray microscope for biological imaging using soft X-rays generated using ultrafast lasers and applying coherent diffractive imaging techniques.
