OBN Digital BioTuesday: ‘Meet The Rosalind Franklin Institute’
Tuesday 2 March, 17:00-19:00
The Rosalind Franklin Institute is the UK’s life science focused national interdisciplinary research Institute, based in the UK’s Golden Triangle, with member organisations across the UK.
Our research teams of engineers, physicists, biologists, and chemists are creating new technologies which will transform their ability to visualise and probe cellular life. These technologies will be applied to the most important research challenges in life science and medicine.
This event will introduce the OBN network to our research leaders in structural biology and chemistry, to discuss the urgent problems which can be addressed through applying the Franklin's technologies and highlight some of the research already underway in their themes.
Agenda:
17:00 Welcome and Introduction:
Laura Holland, Director of Communications and Culture, Rosalind Franklin Institute
17:05 Keynote One:
Professor James Naismith, Director, Rosalind Franklin Institute
Introducing the RFI's themes, vision, and background
17:20 Keynote Two:
Professor Ben Davis, Science Director, Next Generation Chemistry, Rosalind Franklin Institute
Giving an insight into the opportunities in protein modification
17:35 Keynote Three:
Professor Ray Owens, Head of PPUK, Rosalind Franklin Institute
Focusing on Protein Production UK (PPUK), a new initiative that addresses sample preparation for challenging proteins and multi-component
complexes
17:50 Keynote Four:
Dr Maud Dumoux, Postdoctoral Scientist in Cryo-Electron Tomography, Rosalind Franklin Institute
Focusing on Cellular Tomography as the Franklin aims to explore three major challenges in human biology - intracellular bacterial pathogens, viral replication and protein folding
18:05 Q&A
18:20 Virtual Networking via Remo
19:00 Event Close
About the event:
This session will be run in a live format using Zoom Webinar, with registration open for both OBN Members and Non-Members.
A live Q&A will follow the presentations and audience members will be encouraged to engage with speakers by sending their questions in during the event.
Virtual networking will take place using Remo after the Zoom Webinar session ends. The platform facilitates fluid, engaging and authentic interaction between attendees, on virtual tables in a conference room. The platform allows you to connect with one another in real-time, without the need to book, by simply clicking on the virtual table of your choice. When you have selected a table, a live video conversation will be launched with the other table participants, allowing you to chat informally, share news and plan follow-up communications accordingly.
