Raising Biotech Finance on Volatile Public Markets: Challenge or Opportunity? (BioTuesday)
 November's "Enterprise BioTuesday" will be focusing on raising finance on the public markets - review past, present and predicting future conditions for IPOs (for example listing and raising money on the LSE or other exchanges) as well as further placings. In particular our financial services speaker will be asked to comment on the impact of recent market volatility on the challenge or opportunity for biotechs to raise money on the public markets.

Robert Mansfield is a CEO with very recent experience of a successful IPO raising ??20m on the LSE. Robert will share his experiences of the process, and give the audience an insight into Neuropharm's funding strategy and business model moving forward. He will discuss challenges and opportunities, as well as potential pitfalls for biotechs raising finance on the public markets.
Biography Robert has extensive US and international experience of the pharmaceutical industry having held senior roles at SmithKline Beecham, in Germany, Australia and the UK. He was formerly the CEO of Vernalis Group plc., and is a past Chairman of the UK BioIndustry Association and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Robert Mansfield is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company and for leading the Executive Management Team. He liaises with the Board, the committees of the Board and is responsible for the Investor and Press relations.

Dr. Jonathan Senior has been asked to give an expert view of what the effect of increased volatility, and market fluctuations might be on IPOs and further placings by different subsectors within the life sciences sphere, especially with reference to drug development - and how market conditions have helped or hindered biotech stocks, using a a few key case studies on successful and failed biotech IPOs. Reviewing how UK biotech IPOs are performing relative to recent history, which public markets UK biotechs should be targeting, and is the current market state a precursor to a closing IPO window?
Biography Jonathan started his career in the medical profession, Dr. Senior moved across to the financial services sector some nine years ago. In July 2007, he joined Nomura Code from Evolution Securities where he was Head of Life Sciences Equity Research. Prior to that, he was at Credit Suisse First Boston where he worked both as a member of the Healthcare Corporate Finance team and was a key member of their number one ranked Biotech Equity Research team. Jonathan has been involved in transactions for a number of Oxford-based companies including PowderJect, Oxford GlycoSciences, Oxford BioMedica.

The OION meeting is taking place 15 minutes' drive away from Milton Park at the Sophos building in nearby Abingdon. To travel from the Sophos building, take the A415 (Ock Street) to the A34 and head south to the Milton Park exit (first exit).
