OBN’s Commercial Division has three teams:  Membership, Business Development and Purchasing Consortium.  These work closely together to develop the Membership and to expand the range of services that OBN offers to its Members.

LEE PRATLEY

Head of Purchasing and Membership

Lee joined OBN in August 2013 as Purchasing Consortium Development Manager.  He has nearly 10 years of experience in purchasing, including 8 years most recently with Prosidion and UCB Pharma. Lee has extensive experience of leading buying in the SME environment, as well as pharma – from tender to negotiation. His experience of negotiating good one-off discounts can be brought to bear on member capital purchases, as well as increasing the geographic coverage of our buying deals. Lee will be available on consultancy basis for buying during new project initiation and start-up phases in member companies. Lee brings extensive new expertise and capabilities to bear for the plethora of emerging and more established companies that form the collective buying power behind the OBN Membership as a whole, to help drive more and better economies of scale for our Members, adding considerable value to the Membership proposition.

STEPHEN BARTON

Communications Manager

Stephen is a membership marketing and administration professional and during his career has guided the recruitment, retention and provision of services for a number of prestigious organisations. Before joining OBN he was Head of Fellowship Services at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and prior to that was Membership Director at the Royal Society of Medicine.

NICOLA WESTGATE

Membership Manager

Nicola joined OBN in June 2010. She has a strong background in administration having previously worked in many senior roles including Executive PA for the Director of Training at the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). She was also part of the transition team directing the change from Training and Enterprise Councils to LSC.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

MARK HOOPER

Head of Business Development

Mark has over 15 years’ experience in the Life Sciences industry, with a thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug development process, from discovery to development to clinical trials and finally to commercial sales. He started in the lab with Johnson Matthey making catalysts for organic synthesis, and has worked in varied scientific roles including assisting manufacturing (cGMP), running an analytical/QC group, supporting patent disputes in the high court and EPO, formulation and polymorph screening (Pharmaterials), and a clinical trial translation company (Conversis). He has also lead business development covering drug discovery to development, to clinical trials and patient engagement/ commercial launch. He has exceptional academic training, with an MBA from Warwick, a DPhil and BA (Chem) from Oxford and PostDoc studies at Yale. Mark is excited to be part of OBN.  He passionately believes that great innovation coupled with solid investment and dynamic support industries will keep the UK leading the world in Life Science technologies.
