Analytical Development Technician

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a lead role supporting the day-to-day operation of the Analytical Development laboratories.
    • Perform internal periodic maintenance, calibration and verification of laboratory equipment.
    • Maintain stock levels of consumables within the laboratory and ordering materials from suppliers.
    • Perform routine scientific tests as required.
    • Prepare laboratory reagents for use in scientific studies.
    • Operate in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
    • Perform general laboratory housekeeping tasks.
  • Provide support to the Facilities group as required, including the above and additionally:
    • Stock control and receipt of goods for GMP facilities.
    • Coordinate routine and non-routine maintenance of laboratory equipment by external contractors.
    • Escort, oversee and review relevant work performed by outside contractors.
  • Adhere to company documentation policies and maintaining documentation systems as required.

Preferred Educational requirements:

  • A minimum of GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics, English and/or a science based subject.

Experience and skill requirement:

  • A self-motivated individual, with good time management and the ability to work in an organised manner.
  • IT skills – competent in using Microsoft Office.
  • An interest in (medical) science or experience of working in a GMP laboratory environment would be beneficial.
  • Some flexibility is essential to meet varying workloads.

Hours of work:

  • 37.5 hours per week of five days Monday to Friday inclusive. The company operates a flexible working arrangement between the hours of 8am - 6pm. It is expected that full-time staff work 7.5 hours each day, with an unpaid lunch break of 1 hour each day.

Salary:

  • £18K - £18.5K      + pension scheme, optional BUPA membership and other staff benefits

Applicants should be highly organised and committed, have experience of working within a GMP laboratory and be interested in working within a scientific environment. Practical experience is desirable, but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are just as important. As this is an entry-level positon, previous knowledge of the key responsibilities is not essential for the post, as full training will be provided.
